Research
Texas, USA
There’s going to be a solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024 with the totality happening at the east coast of USA.
I’m planning to go to Texas to capture the totality on film, either in Dallas or Austin.
I went through flight tickets and hotels at Dallas and Austin, but unfortunately I find it too expensive for a trip to Texas. So instead, I’m going to take a risk and head to Montreal where there are potentially more clouds, but I’ll be able to check a city in another country.
Montreal, Canada
The sky in Montreal on the day of the solar eclipse will potentially be cloudy, but not overcast, so there might be some openings. I’m taking this risk because it’s cheaper and I’ll be able to check a city in another country.
According to an article in CBC.ca, if you want to increase your probabilities, you go to Tignish in Prince Edward Island. It’s got quite a dip, about 10 percent less cloud than just about anywhere else in Canada.
According to a user that shared data on Google Maps, which was shared by the government of Quebec’s website (the times written below is in Montréal’s timezone)
- Duration of the entire = 1 minute 25 seconds
- Beginning of partial eclipse = 2:14:29 PM
- Beginning of the totality = 3:26:51 PM
- Maximum eclipse = 3:27:34 PM
- End of the whole = 3:28:16 PM
- End of the partial eclipse = 4:36:52 PM
- Obscuration = 100
